Western Michigan University College of Engineering Tour

Western Michigan University College of Engineering Tour

In February, 50 OSTC-SE students had the opportunity to travel to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Students specifically visited the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences school which houses programs with cutting-edge, high-paying future career opportunities in:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Graphic and Print Science
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Paper Engineering

Students had a chance to interact with the aerospace and rocket club and see a flight simulator, learn about brand new technology in paper manufacturing, and check out the solar car challenge vehicle. Also, students participated in an interactive study by using over 20 sensors attached to various points on their body, then simulated different activities, with the overall goal of learning how to alleviate body strain while working on the job with heavy materials.

There was even a chance for our students to learn about the many and wide variety of scholarships WMU offers to incoming freshmen.

Altogether students enjoyed themselves as they traveled around the campus via charter bus. Some of the Oakland Schools staff members who chaperoned are also WMU alumni. They happily pointed out residence halls, student activity buildings, described their own experiences, and offered a general tour of the campus, giving the students a complete picture of life at WMU.
