OSTC-SW staff, students’ charitable giving in full bloom

Local essential employees got a burst of spring this week when students and staff at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest (OSTC-SW) in Wixom donated approximately 125 hanging flower baskets to frontline workers.

Annually, the school’s Agriscience & Environmental Technologies program holds a spring flower sale, which was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the baskets were already created and growing, so Bailey Garwood, one of the program’s teachers, suggested the baskets be donated to local frontline workers.

Working with Oakland Schools to implement proper safety protocols for pickup, Garwood emailed students and staff letting them know the baskets were available for donation. OSTC-SW Visual Imaging teachers created flags/labels for each basket. Then, utilizing a curbside pickup method, students and staff ensured the hanging flower baskets were given to local essential workers such as mail carriers, grocery workers and health care employees.
