Career Readiness Consultants Introduce Construction Trades Training Program
Mark Edwards

On Jan. 10, 2025, Oakland Schools Career Readiness Consultants Jennifer Kluesner and Patty Adolfs delivered a compelling presentation on a new partnership with LIUNA Training of Michigan (LTM) and Construction Laborers’ Local 1076 in Pontiac.

This collaboration allows juniors and seniors to participate in a five-week training program at LTM’s state-of-the-art facility in Perry, Michigan.

Students interested in pursuing careers as craft laborers can earn certifications in concrete work, construction math, blueprint reading, mason tending, fall protection, scissor lift operation, aerial lift operation, and forklift operation, among others. The program is free, and students receive bus transportation from their OSTC campus to Perry for the training sessions.

Additionally, students are paid a weekly stipend of $300 throughout their training. Seniors who complete the program may qualify for a five-week, on-the-job training experience with local industry partners such as Walbridge, Frank Rewold, and Ideal Contracting.

This initiative offers students hands-on experience and valuable certifications, paving the way for successful careers in the construction trades.
