Construction Students Get Creative at Strand Theater

Construction Students Get Creative at Strand Theater

In a rare collaboration that blends the arts with hands-on construction skills, OSTC-Northeast’s Construction Technology Program students took on the ambitious project of creating a versatile prop for the Flagstar Strand Theater's youth theater production of The Lion King.

The historic theater, a restored jewel in downtown Pontiac, sought the expertise of these students to craft Pride Rock, an iconic symbol of the beloved musical. Demonstrating ingenuity and technical skill, the students designed the structure to swivel, revealing Scar's Lair on its reverse side.

Under the guidance of Construction Technology Instructor Tim Rawls, the students navigated the challenges of making the prop both safe and mobile. "It was a fun project that offered the students a chance to do something a little different," Rawls reflected, expressing eagerness for more creative ventures in the future.
