OSTC Machining Students Shine at MITES and Ferris State Competitions
OSTC-Northeast Machining students earned top honors at the MITES Region 7 competition on Thursday, May 1, at Lake Orion High School, with multiple projects advancing to the state finals held May 7–10 in Gaylord.
Among the top state finalists were Truman Sparks (8th Place, Shift Handle Ball), Levi Saul (6th Place, Toothed Belt Clamp), and Brooklyn Zuk (7th Place, Vise Stop). Numerous students also received honorable mentions for their precision toolmaking, CNC machining, and game design projects.
At the 2025 Ferris State University Machining Competition on Saturday, May 9, Austin Butcher won the Surface Grinding category, earning a Ferris scholarship and a Kennedy toolbox filled with machinist tools valued at $2,000. Katherine LeTissier won first place in Robotic Programming, earning a Ferris scholarship and a 3D printer. Twelve students in total represented OSTC-NE across milling, lathe work, surface grinding, metrology, and robotic programming categories.
These accomplishments underscore the exceptional talent and preparation of OSTC-NE’s students and the strength of the career and technical education programs that serve Oakland County and beyond.
