OSTC-NE Students Earn State Honors at MITES Competition

Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast students earned numerous regional and state honors during the 2026 MITES State Championships Annual Student Competition and Convention held May 6-9 at the Oakland Expo Center in Waterford.

In the MS-1 Machined Crafts category, Wesley Lupulesu earned first place regionally and 10th place at the state level for the Titans of CNC TM-1 project. Ben Andrews of Lake Orion High School earned third place regionally and fifth place statewide for a machined sphere project, while Trevor Abramczyk earned fourth place regionally and sixth place statewide for an earring box and lid project. Brayden Hickey earned fifth-place regional recognition and honorable mention at the state competition.

In the MS-2 Single Machined Hand Tools and Parts category, Rudy Seely earned first place regionally and third place statewide for a robotics frame tie corner bracket project. Austin Butcher earned third place regionally and fifth place statewide for an Immerse Manual Mill Certification project, while Tristen Hadley earned sixth place regionally and sixth place statewide for a shaft lathe project.

Luke Manning earned first place regionally and honorable mention statewide in the MS-4 Hand Tool Sets and Combinations category for hex shaft fixturing vise jaws designed for robotics teams.

In the MS-8 Mating Moving Parts category, Xavier Vazquez earned first place regionally and fourth place statewide for a hex-driven pinion gear set project for robotics teams.

Trevor Abramczyk also earned first place regionally and fifth place statewide in the MS-9 Games category for a Fidget Piston project, while Ben Andrews earned second place regionally and eighth place statewide for a spinning top project.

In the MS-11 Machined Models category, Ben Andrews earned first place regionally and seventh place statewide for a Stanley Cup project.

In the WM-GP Wrought Metal Group category, Sophie Monro, Kyler O’Melia and Nathan Vander Sluis earned first place regionally and first place statewide for a welding stool project.
