OSTC Northeast Students Advance to State in SkillsUSA Competitions

Students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast earned top finishes in regional SkillsUSA competitions across construction, electrical, plumbing, mathematics, and cosmetology, with several advancing to the state competition April 17-19 at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids.

In the construction competition on Feb. 12 at the Detroit Carpentry Center, Eli Mattila of Oxford High School, Jed Arthur of Oxford High School, and Marvin Delgado-Castro of Pontiac ITA earned first place in TeamWorks to advance to the state finals. Gabe Fandakly of Oakdale Academy, in Avondale School District, placed third in Carpentry and also advanced to the states.

At Detroit Masonry at Randolph Technical Center on Feb. 25, Johnny Gaytan Roman of Pontiac ITA placed fourth in Masonry. In the construction and electrical competition on Feb. 26 at OSTC, Charles Pearson of Rochester High School placed first in Electrical, and Kyle Strine of Rochester High School placed second. Owen Putman of Rochester Stoney Creek High School advanced to states in Plumbing, while Julian Campbell of Oxford High School and Colton Reichert of Rochester Stoney Creek High School advanced in Mathematics.

In cosmetology, students competed Feb. 27 at Breithaupt in Nails and the following day at Saline High School in Mannequin, Cosmetology, and Esthetics. All participating students qualified to move on to the state competition.
