Students Shine at SkillsUSA State Competition

Students from OSTC demonstrated remarkable talent and skill at the recent SkillsUSA State competition held in Grand Rapids from April 12-14. Competing in various categories, these young professionals showcased their abilities across various disciplines, including Construction, Cosmetology, Culinary, Automotive, and Collision.

The competition proved to be a successful outing, especially for Brooke Rennert-Gouin, who clinched first place in Customer Service at the college level, and R’mancia Price, who also earned first place in the same category. A team of four Cosmetology students—Harmonie Jewel Carroll, Laniah Lanier, Izabella Lawson, and Madison Misewicz—outshined their peers by winning first place in Entrepreneurship.

Additional accolades were awarded to several OSTC students who placed in the top three in their respective categories. Matthew Dagenais secured second place in Collision Repair Technology. In the Esthetics category, Jasmine Wright and her model Precious Valdez also finished in second place. Filiberto Acosta Munoz achieved third place in Automotive Service Technology, while Miyale Dixson and her model Jordan Allen were awarded third place in Nail Care.

These outstanding achievements have paved the way for the first-place winners to advance to the National SkillsUSA Competition, set to take place in Atlanta, GA, in June. The weekend event was a testament to the students’ dedication and expertise and an inspiring display of their readiness to excel in their future careers.
