Welding Students Earn Honors at Regional Competitions

Welding students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus–Northeast demonstrated their technical skill and professionalism while competing in two regional competitions held in November.

Students participated in the Washtenaw Welding Competition on Nov. 7 at Washtenaw Community College and the Ironworkers Competition on Friday, Nov. 17 in Wixom, competing across multiple welding disciplines against peers from programs throughout the region.

Northeast student Charley Hogan earned a second-place finish in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) at the Washtenaw competition, highlighting the program’s strong emphasis on precision, technique and industry standards.

Students representing OSTC-NE included Ethan Liard and Kyler O’Melia (Clarkston High School); Monte White, Elizabeth Cuthbertson and Jayden Lafevers (Avondale High School); Nathan Vander Sluis (homeschooled); Riley Wilber and Logan Shaffer (Oxford High School); Aidan Beadle, Charley Hogan, Vince Kucera, Alex Isabell and Noah Johns (Rochester High School); Trent Crosthwaite and Leo Widlicka (Stoney Creek High School); Luc Leach (Waterford Mott); Sophie Munro (Waterford Kettering); Max Grekowicz and Sam Adams (Rochester Adams); Aidan Ingle, Judah Bristow, Reese Morris, Niko Vellucci and Elliot Lyons (Lake Orion High School); Zane Bach (Clarkston Renaissance); Nina Kinne (Learning Options); and Marquis McCray and Bryan Preciado (Pontiac High School).

Participation in regional competitions provides students with an authentic experience aligned with industry expectations and workforce readiness.
