Energy and Construction Students Explore Power Careers at DTE Field Trip
Mark Edwards

Students from OSTC’s Energy-Electrical Technologies and Construction Technology programs visited the DTE Waterford Service Center on Oct. 21 for an interactive career exploration event coordinated by OSTC-Northwest School-to-Career Coordinator Christina Bowman.

Participants from the Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast campuses toured the facility. They rotated through five learning stations highlighting DTE’s planning, engineering, warehouse operations, underground cable work, and the crowd-favorite “Arcs and Sparks” safety demonstration.

DTE professionals shared career insights, emphasized the importance of teamwork and safety, and discussed the role of skilled trades in powering Michigan communities. Students received swag bags, completed digital surveys, and accessed QR codes linking to summer internship and career opportunities.

The experience helped students connect classroom learning to real-world applications and explore the variety of pathways available in Michigan’s growing energy and construction sectors. OSTC extends its appreciation to DTE Energy for hosting an inspiring and educational event.
