Future Leaders Golf Outing 2024

Future Leaders Golf Outing 2024

The Entrepreneurship and Advanced Marketing students at OSTC-NW successfully completed their annual Future Leaders Golf Outing capstone project.

This initiative allows students to apply course concepts learned throughout the school year, demonstrating their proficiency in 17 of the 19 Perkins Course Competencies.
The students meticulously planned, organized, and executed all aspects of the event, including sales, promotions, and hosting responsibilities. Additionally, the outing introduced dozens of students to golf, a sport closely tied to business, sales, and marketing.

Over the past 24 years, the students, through their DECA club, have hosted 21 charity events at Shepherds Hollow, raising nearly $500,000 for various student-selected charities. These include Clarkston SCAMP, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Scarlet’s Smile, Wigs-4-Kids, Wounded Warrior Project, Paws with a Cause, Alzheimer’s Association, Lighthouse North, OATS, The New Day Foundation, Lewy Body Dementia Association, and Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.

This year, the event raised over $21,000 for PMG Awareness and St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, making it one of the most successful years.

Interacting with local businesses, community leaders, and alumni, students gained valuable experience and networking opportunities. They often secured internships and mentorships. The event also received high praise from students' families, who recognized it as one of the most impactful experiences in their education.

The longstanding partnership with Shepherds Hollow has provided employment opportunities for many OSTC students. Mike Bylen, managing partner of Shepherds Hollow and owner of Pine Trace and Cherry Creek golf courses, regularly mentors and speaks to the students.

The collaboration with Shepherds Hollow ensures a safe and enriching environment for the event. The Future Leaders Golf Outing has offered Entrepreneurship and Advanced Marketing students unique opportunities, from television appearances and meetings with state legislators to interactions with local celebrities and business leaders.
