Future Leaders Prepare for Annual Golf Outing
Students in the Entrepreneurship and Advanced Marketing program at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest are once again preparing for the annual Future Leaders Golf Outing. This capstone project blends business, philanthropy, and real-world career readiness.
Set for Thursday, May 8, at Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Club, the student-led event includes a morning of golf from 7:45 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a banquet lunch and silent auction from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students are raising funds for their DECA club and two charities: Cure AHC, a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood, and the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides support and resources for injured veterans.
Throughout the planning process, students are responsible for managing all aspects of the outing, including securing sponsorships, handling promotions, organizing logistics, and hosting the event. The project also introduces many students to the game of golf.
Over the past 25 years, the outing has raised nearly $500,000 for dozens of charitable organizations selected by students, including Clarkston SCAMP, Scarlet’s Smile, Wigs-4-Kids, and the Alzheimer’s Association. The event has also connected students to hundreds of local businesses and professionals who serve as mentors and potential internship providers.
“The Future Leaders Golf Outing is one of the most impactful and transformative experiences we offer our students,” said Entrepreneurship and Advanced Marketing instructor Tom Neal. “It prepares them for life beyond high school in a meaningful and hands-on way.”
