Graphic Design students help mark the library centennial

OSTC Northwest Graphic Design students helped Brandon Township Public Library mark its 100th anniversary by designing banners focused on the library's history.

The banners are part of the library's centennial recognition in 2026. Each design features the "100 Years BTPL Brandon Township Public Library" anniversary logo, which includes fireworks and a building silhouette.

The student-designed banners use archival newspaper clippings, historic photographs, captions, and section headers to organize moments from the library’s history.

One banner focuses on the library's early years in Ortonville. It includes clippings about the library's beginning in 1926, a newspaper article headlined "Library at Ortonville Marks 30 Years", and a section titled "Ortonville Women Take Lead 1956". The banner also includes photos of library events, library interiors, and Brandon Town Hall.

Another banner highlights 1965. It includes the sections "Brandon Citizens Support A New Beginning 1965" and "A Library on the Move 1965". The banner features images of Brandon Town Hall, a "Small But Mighty" newspaper clipping, pledge information, letters to the editor, and photos showing the library’s move to new quarters.

A third banner focuses on later expansion efforts. It includes a special election notice dated Sept. 1, 1987, a clipping titled "Land changes hands", a groundbreaking photo, and a newspaper clipping headlined "Construction begins on new library". The banner also includes construction photos, parade images, and photos connected to library programs.

Brandon Township Public Library is celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2026. The yearlong recognition is scheduled to culminate with a Centennial Celebration in October.
