Three Culinary Arts students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest competed in SkillsUSA on Feb. 13, 2026, at Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak campus, led and supported by Jackie Lord, Culinary Arts instructor.

Katelyn Anderholt, a senior from Holly High School; Kennedy Baillie, a senior from Clarkston High School; and Maxwell Dodge-Rubin, a junior from Clarkston High School, participated in the Commercial Baking and Cake Decorating competition.

During the three-hour baking portion, students prepared four recipes from scratch while demonstrating technical skills, including knife work, and following detailed competition instructions. After a short break, they moved into the cake-decorating portion, where they had one hour to fill and decorate a torte according to specific order requirements.

More than 250 students from across the region competed in SkillsUSA events ranging from hot foods to team-building presentations. The experience gave students an opportunity to showcase their creativity, technical ability, and composure under pressure.
