Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest student Evelin Spiece earned a gold medal in Collision Repair and Refinishing during the 2026 SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held April 17-19 in Grand Rapids.

Spiece competed against some of Michigan’s top Career and Technical Education students in a series of hands-on industry challenges focused on damage analysis, metal repair, refinishing techniques and workplace safety standards.

Throughout the competition, Spiece demonstrated precision, craftsmanship, problem-solving skills and professionalism under pressure, earning first place in the statewide event.

With the gold-medal finish, Spiece qualified to represent Michigan at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference this June in Atlanta. The national competition will bring together top students from across the country to compete in career and technical skill events.

The achievement reflects both the dedication of OSTC-NW students and the high standards of the campus’ Collision Repair and Refinishing program.
