Shining a Light on Energy

Students ask questions to DTE line workers during an outdoor demonstration

DTE Visits OSTC-SE as Part of Careers in Energy Week

Students from the Energy, Construction, Machining, Welding, and Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics programs had the opportunity to participate in unique DTE demonstration. OSTC-SE hosted the event, which was geared toward bringing attention to job openings and educational opportunities within the energy field.

DTE workers showed students how real-world situations are handled. The Mobile Command Center provided students the ability to experience how DTE can utilize a truck to provide an onsite meeting center during mass outages and emergency restoration activities.

Other stations included overhead line work, gas line technicians and underground cable splicing which allowed students to handle the tools and materials needed for such a task.  Another station the students enjoyed was the gas line technician, offering a uniquely different energy perspective, compared to the electrical sources at other stations.

Overall, students enjoyed the hands on, real-world experiences, learning all sorts of interesting new ideas from the DTE professionals.
