Construction and Energy Students Get the Scoop
Construction and Energy students from Southeast Campus embarked on a valuable learning experience as they traveled to Howell, MI to participate in MASCI's (Michigan Apprenticeship Steering Committee, Inc) annual Construction Career Days. The event allowed the students to receive training from licensed professionals and gain hands-on experience with the heavy equipment commonly used by construction workers. Among the various equipment, the backhoe particularly caught the interest of the SE students. The event also showcased other industrial career paths, such as bricklayers, sheet workers, electrical workers, roofers, and concrete finishers. Students even had the chance to try their hand at using a jackhammer.
Beyond the hands-on activities, the event facilitated networking opportunities with potential future employers and students from other schools. Southeast Campus students gained valuable insights into the partnerships, trades, and colleges associated with the construction industry. The Construction Career Days event boasted impressive participation of 4,438 students from 115 schools. The event’s success was made possible by the involvement of over 90 companies and 50 sponsors, all contributing to the students' enriching experience.
