CyberPatriot Team Earns First Place in Michigan
Mark Edwards

Cybersecurity and Networking students from Oakland Schools Technical Southeast Campus earned first place in Michigan in the CyberPatriot Competition, the nation’s premier youth cybersecurity program.

Competing against top teams statewide, students demonstrated advanced technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving under time pressure. The competition required participants to secure Windows and Linux operating systems, identify vulnerabilities, and strengthen system configurations, tasks modeled after real-world cybersecurity challenges.

The championship team included Ethan Hanmer and James Creveling from Troy Athens High School, and Jesse Perreca from Royal Oak High School.

The first-place finish marks the program’s first state championship after earning third and second-place finishes in previous years. The achievement reflects continued growth in the campus’s cybersecurity curriculum and student leadership development.
