Gas City Tour Gives Students Hands-On Industry Experience

Students from the Electrical and Energy Technologies and Construction Technology programs participated in a hands-on learning experience on March 10 at Consumers Energy’s Flint Service Center.

During the visit, students toured “Gas City,” a specialized training facility for gas technicians that simulates real-world scenarios. The experience allowed students to observe industry practices and practice detecting gas leaks in lifelike structures. Students also took part in PVC pipe fusion exercises using the same equipment and lab spaces as professional technicians.

The visit gave students a closer look at careers in the natural gas industry, an area that continues to offer strong and stable employment opportunities. The experience helped connect classroom instruction with real-world applications in the energy and construction fields.

OSTC expressed appreciation to Michelle Mitchell, talent pipeline project manager at Consumers Energy, for hosting the group and providing an informative experience.
