OSTC Southeast Automotive Technology Students Explore Career Pathways During Facility Visits
Mark Edwards

Automotive Technology students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus–Southeast took part in a full-day Work-Based Learning field experience on Nov. 7, visiting a series of dealerships, independent repair shops, and prototype vehicle facilities across Oakland and Wayne counties.

Instructor Micah Graham and Automotive IT Craig Toohey guided nine students through four locations: Dean Sellers Ford in Troy, Mike Savoie Chevrolet in Troy, MI Imports in Royal Oak and Roush in Livonia, including the Roush Museum.

Students toured sales, service and parts departments while speaking with technicians, including several OSTC alumni, about industry certifications, daily responsibilities, diagnostic tools, and pathways to employment. Managers and owners at each stop also discussed interview preparedness and future opportunities in the automotive repair sector.

Former OSTC student Matthew Cook delivered a presentation during the MI Imports visit, offering insights into career growth and the industry's evolving demands.
