OSTC Southeast’s FIRST Robotics Team Wins Woodhaven Event

Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southeast’s FIRST Robotics Team 7769, The CREW, delivered a standout performance March 14-15 at the Woodhaven District Event, finishing with a perfect 17-0 record and capturing the event championship.

Competing against 40 teams from across the state, the CREW went undefeated in qualification matches, finishing 12-0 and earning the top overall ranking. As captain of the No. 1 alliance, the team joined with Team 469, Las Guerrillas from International Academy Central, and Team 8179, the Robo Falcons from Divine Child High School, to secure the championship.

In addition to winning the event, The CREW received the Excellence in Engineering Award, which recognizes outstanding design, innovation, and robot performance. The honor highlighted the team’s commitment to quality engineering practices, thoughtful design, and effective problem-solving.

The team includes students from Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics, Cybersecurity, Programming, and Energy programs. Members of the drive team included Steve Smitka, Dom Maples, Luke Say, Andrezej Olszewski, and Dom Wenskay. The team next looked ahead to the Troy District tournament and the Michigan State Championship at Saginaw Valley State University, with hopes of qualifying for the FIRST World Championship in Houston.
