Students Visit Detroit Electrical Industry Training Center
Mark Edwards

Students from the Electrical and Energy Technologies and Construction Technologies programs at Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southeast and Northwest toured the Detroit Electrical Industry Training Center in Warren as part of a hands-on career exploration experience.

The visit included a guided tour and demonstration of electrical apprenticeship training at the facility, which is supported through a partnership between the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 58 and the National Electrical Contractors Association. Students learned about apprenticeship pathways and the role electricians play in major Detroit-area construction projects, including the Gordie Howe International Bridge, Hudson’s Tower and the COSM event facility.

The event was hosted by Prudence Rose of Management and Unions Standing Together (MUST), an organization representing skilled trades and apprenticeship programs across 22 trade unions. Participating instructors included Bill Ray of OSTC-NW and Tom Randazzo of OSTC-SE. David Wolf, EITC training coordinator, also supported the visit.

The experience gave students a closer look at long-term career opportunities in the electrical and energy sectors while connecting classroom learning to real-world industry training.
